An amice is a rectangular piece of white linen, a liturgical vestment worn by clergy in some Christian denominations. It is worn around the neck and shoulders, and historically served as a protective collar for other vestments and as a head covering that was later folded down. Today, it is often optional and only required if an alb doesn't fully cover the wearer's neck and chest.
