PURPLE ROMAN (FIDDLEBACK) CHASUBLES

The Purple Roman Fiddleback Chasuble reflects the beauty and solemnity of the traditional Roman style of sacred vestments. Its distinctive fiddleback shape allows freedom of movement at the altar while maintaining a dignified and timeless appearance. The rich purple color emphasizes the Church’s call to penance, preparation, prayer, and conversion.

In the Roman Rite, purple (violet) vestments are traditionally worn by priests during:

  • Advent – as the Church prepares for the celebration of the Nativity of the Lord.

  • Lent – during the penitential season of prayer, fasting, and preparation for Easter.

  • Masses for the Dead and Funerals – violet may be used as a liturgical color for funeral and other Masses for the Dead.

  • Other penitential celebrations when violet is prescribed or permitted according to the liturgical norms.

the Roman fiddleback design is especially suitable for the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass, while it may also be used in celebrations of the Roman Rite where this style of chasuble is appropriate. A beautiful vestment for the priest who desires to celebrate the Sacred Liturgy with reverence, dignity, and continuity with the Roman liturgical tradition.
